Nursery Update

Okay with only about a month left of this pregnancy- it is time to get down to business on this nursery!  It started as just an empty unused room in our home.  I really wanted to give it a little character with built-ins and a cute window seat (something I always wanted as a little girl).  So we found a local handyman to do custom built in shelves with connected window seat that opens for storage.  I LOVE the way they turned out!
The room starting out.

Each side has about 4 shelves that can all be adjustable.

Next, it was time to put the boys to work!  Well Aaron really changed the light out, while Ian tried to be helpful, and  John supervised from the comfort of the glider.  Practicing his baby hold with the monkey in hand!

Out with the builder grade, white ceiling fan and in with the adorable golden,  with a touch of bling chandelier.

Here are the built-ins and painted.  Next step- we are going to wallpaper the back of the shelves for an extra pop of color and pattern.  Ahh- can't wait to see that finished, then it will be time to stage the shelves.

Then, we needed to finally select a paint color.  With about 7 different options we settled on a calm color called ''sea foam'.

Here is where we are currently:  Built-ins-check, walls painted-check, light changed-check, crib put in-check, glider  delivered-check!! Progress makes me happy- I can start to picture this as an actual nursery- and filling it with a little precious girl!!!
Now even after all the progress, my to do list is still rather long...

Need to finish the picture gallery for above the changing table
I am excited to get the dresser delivered and change out the basic knobs with these cute ones!

On a side note- this little gal has quite the closet started all ready!
So as you can see, things are happening around here- slowly but surely!  We have a about 4 weeks left and hopefully all these projects will come together within that time.  I am excited to share the final product!!

Baby It's Cold Outside

My sister and mom gave me the most beautiful baby shower with the theme of 'Baby It's Cold Outside'- rather funny that it was 65 degrees that day in January.  I mean what are the chances!!  Regardless of the warm temps, the winter wonderland shower was perfect.  Here are just a few pics of this wonderful day with friends and family!
My wonderful sister and sister to be!!

Fun little game- guests added a message with permanent marker on a diaper for our late night changes.  A great way to keep a sense of humor about being up every 2 hours!
Can't wait to add a little girl to this generation photo!

Best Auntie- to be!

Nesting with Organization

I am not sure if this would be called nesting, maybe a new year's resolution thing, or just me being me... BUT I found some spaces to organize!  I decided to conquer a few spots that have been particularly bothering me lately.  This would be our 'junk drawer'- that one drawer that is literally just a catch all.  It would not open without getting caught on something sticky out- literally drove me crazy every time I opened it.  Also the area in our laundry room where we kept hardware items for the house. Everything just sat on shelves with no organization in sight.  Oh wait another area- our random cabinet with every manual that came with our house the day we moved in just stuffed in! Okay here are the embarrassing before pics...
Junk Drawer! I mean who knows what is in there?! People who know me might be shocked to know that I did indeed have a junk drawer- but it drove me crazy!!
The random cabinet and pile of manuals.  Oh my...

This is the final product of the laundry room cabinet with the tools all in labeled boxes.

This is exactly the reason I needed to clean out the manuals and organize them.  I seriously found the SAME manual like 10 times!! What? Only need to keep one- already making progress!
Next I put every different appliance or manual in a labeled folder.
Then added them to a hanging file box in alphabetical order.

I also organized my camera supplies and extra house supplies such as keys and random things we got again when we moved in.
Here is the final product! Organized and so much easier to find what we need.
The junk drawer only needed a few dividers and a good clean out.  Most of that stuff was junk and went to the trash.  Now it is a drawer that is organized and everything in there has a home and will be used!
After this day of organizing just these simple spaces, I felt so much better!  I just get happy when spaces I use often are organized and make sense.  I think too often we think about all the spaces we want to organize.  I would encourage you to just take one small space at a time and organize it.  Little by little you will have a well organized home!

Nursery Progress

Well the nursery is beginning to take shape... in my head at least.  I have FINALLY ordered a glider, dresser, crib, and a few other essential pieces.  While those will take 8-10 weeks to arrive (ahh- shouldn't have waited so long to order), I am working on getting paint colors. accessories, and the other items all lined up.  Can't wait to start to see it all start to come together in the room!  I did create an Olio Board so you can see what I am thinking...

Nursery Inspirations

Now that we found out we are having a little girl, it is time to start this nursery.  I will be working with my designer sister, Jessica, to create a nursery that is not so babyish.  Something this little lady can grow into and enjoy for years to come.  I am not an overly pink, frilly kind of person so my goal is to create a nursery with a colorful combination of modern pieces with antique finds.  One thing I know for sure- I will not be shopping at a big box store where everything matches.  Oh no!! I can't wait to hit the local boutiques and antique stores.  Below are just a few pictures from Pinterest that are ideas that I am enjoying.  Stay tuned for lots of nursery update!
A simple, white Jenny Lind crib is the way I will be going.  It is cute but totally affordable.  I have no need for a crib that turns into a bed.  I also like the simple white sheet with a more decorative skirt.  Bedding is hard to find in cute patterns- this might be a make yourself project.

I think stripes on the ceiling in a bold color makes an awesome statement.  We have textured ceilings so we will have to test this out but I would love to try it!

I like that this picture shows how an antique piece of furniture can be painted and used for a changing table.

This color combo is something I could do- peach, pink/coral, mint, turquoise, navy, gray- all great colors!

I love a pop of yellow!

This mint/sea glass color is something I could see for a wall color.

These sewing circles are such a fun and easy way to introduce lots of fun fabrics in small affordable amounts!
There you have it- just a few moments that I have found to be inspiring for this room to be!  Can't wait to shop this weekend! Updates to come...

Cupcakes were filled with pink or blue frosting...
