An Organized Moment

Not sure why... but I LOVE organizing!  Most people who know me, know this little trait I have.  I enjoy a well organized space, and I am not afraid to say it!!  So even though my closet might have appeared already organized to most- I had some ideas that I wanted to change.

You see most of my closet is organized by type of clothing- like jeans, tanks, teeshirts, cardigans... you get the idea.  Then all the other things were organized in baskets.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good basket for organizing.  But I started to feel my baskets overflowing and I was never sure what all was stuffed in each.  So I went to Target and collected only a few cheap and easy materials to help clean out my over stuffed baskets and display the items in them.  My thought... maybe if I can see what I have I will wear it more often or at least realize I need to have a garage sale!

Here are a few of the ideas I put into place to organize my closet today.

My purses started on a shelf just all kinda tossed in.
I used the empty space under my last shelf and the carpet floor to create a hanging display for my purse collection.

I simply took a tension rod and tightened it on either side of the shelf.  Then I used cheap, silver shower curtain rings to hang each purse with.   So easy, but they look so nice all hung up and visible!
This organization tip I did from the minute we moved into our home.  I might have a slight obsession with necklaces!!  I needed a place to put them all and a normal jewelry case just doesn't cut it.  I used the empty side of my built in shelves and added small screw in hooks.  Sooo easy and effective.  Now I can see all my necklaces, and they are right there when I am putting together an outfit.

My next basket to organize was the one stuffed with scarves.  I love scarves!! They are great for all seasons! I  needed a spot to hang them so they weren't so wrinkled when I wanted to wear them and so I didn't forget about the ones at the bottom of the basket.
Again- I am all about using that random empty space in a closet!
I simply screwed in a small curtain rod.  Then I used those same silver shower curtain rings to hang each scarf.

My last tip is one for the shoes!!
I love the look of boots all standing tall, like in a store.  However, the boot inserts at local organizing stores are around $10.00.  Doesn't seem like much until you realize you have about 8 to 10 pairs of boots!! That adds up!!

So my solution was to create my own boot insert!  I simply used an old box and cut a slice of cardboard that was long enough to fill my boot length.  I cut it and folded it in half.

Stick the cardboard down into each boot and there you have it!! A FREE boot insert so all your boots can stand tall!

I gotta say I had so much fun in my closet today!!  I have some fun ideas now for those empty shelves and basket!
Good thing about my new closet organization- It is organized and looks neat.  I can see everything and easily access everything.
Bad thing about my new closet organization- Those baskets hid how much stuff I really have.  Now that it is all out on display for me, my husband can also see everything!!  No more shopping for a while:)

Hope these little tips help inspire you to organize a space in your home.

Creating a Wedding

This past weekend was my little sister's wedding.  We spent the few days prior with our mom working hard to complete all of our DIY projects and making each moment memorable.  It all turned out perfectly- and I can't wait to see the professional pictures- which I will share as soon as I get my hands on them!! But until then, here are a few I snapped as we prepared for her BIG life moment!!
It all starts with a walk-in cooler full of flowers!

Our new flower obsession- Billy Balls! They look just like this in water and when you take them out and let them dry!  A great flower to decorate with!

Thanks to our stepdad who literally chopped a tree down to help with center pieces!

Thanks Pinterest for giving us great inspiration!

We collected old antique swiss dot vases.

Jessica's fiance John Marhoefer- had a great grandpa who had a lard company many years ago- Jess found a few of the old lard tins at an antique store.  We used them as vases to decorate the rehearsal cookout tables!  A moment of family history- beautiful!!

The art of creating a bridal bouquet... teamwork!

Final product- can you eye spy the billy balls?

Table center pieces were different for each table- we used burlap as a runner and cut fabric as a center piece to bring in the grey and yellow.

3 sizes of antique ball jars made for perfect center piece vases.

The setting for a lovely rehearsal dinner.

BROTHERS!!!

Future Mr. and Mrs.
Just preparing for the wedding created wonderful memories.  I can't wait to share some moments from the actual wedding day! It was a perfect day celebrating love and happiness!

Chalkboard Moments

I am not sure what it is about a chalkboard but I LOVE them!  Could be the teacher thing:)  I started seeing all these cute chalkboards on pinterest and started getting the need to have one somewhere in my house. After lots of searching, I finally found a large frame on super sale 80% off!! Then headed to Lowes to have a piece of wood cut to size.  After a few coats of paint on the frame and board, my husband nailed it all together, and I was ready to go with some fun sayings!!!  I love the idea of using it for many different purposes- whether it be an inspiring quote, a fun countdown, or a to do list- the ideas and fun ways to use it are endless!  Here is what I have used it for so far...

I finished the board during a time when I needed a quote about HOPE... Looking at this each day reminded me  keep HOPE above anything else!
Then I changed it for my sister's bridal shower- it was a perfect place to display their love story!

Right after the bridal shower- I turned it into a fun countdown for vacation- I took this as we left for the airport!

Right now, as summer is about to officially start, my husband and I are using it as our summer BUCKET list... here's to checking off all the moments on that list to create a wonderful summer of memories!

Sorry for the less than great pictures- MUST BUY A NEW CAMERA!!

Office Ideas

Well it is official... I have the need to do a room in my house over.  I LOVE designing rooms and the only room in our home that I haven't decorated is the office.  When we moved in 2 years ago, it was the one room that I cared the least about.  So we filled it with what we could find on a budget and called it a day.  Well my talented sister just finished designing and redoing an office for a client.  Let's just say after helping her with this job and seeing how beautiful an office can be- my mind began to turn for my own office.  Needless to say my husband was thrilled to hear that I thought is was time to give the office a little umph...  So I started my mood board of ideas (calm colors, beach moments)... what do you think?

Family Pictures

Well as I wanted to start a blog and my very talented sister was adding to her design blog (which you MUST check out!! www.jessicastoutdesign.blogspot.com) we contacted our great friend Kelsey who is a talented photographer!  She was willing to take a few pics of the two of us for our projects.  Then we were able to convince our brother to join us for a family photo to give our mom for Mother's Day!  Thanks Kels- you are the best!!!  Check out more of her amazing work at: kelseyclarkphotography
